Europa striker facing ban from GFA
GibFootballTalk understands Europa FC striker Copi faces a ban from the GFA following his pre-match comments on social media. GFT understand the GFA will be banning the player from all football related activity in Gibraltar and have his registration with the associated revoked. The striker’s comments prompted the club the post an apology on their facebook page an hour before kick off of yesterday’s Europa League game.
“The club is investigating a defamatory comment allegedly posted by a Europa player under contract. An internal investigation into the matter will take place after todays match. Apologies to anyone who might have felt offended. There is no place for those views in our club. Thank you.”
Despite the above, the player was still named on the substitutes bench for the Europa League 2nd Round, 2nd leg qualifier against AIK. The striker came on as a second half substitute to a chorus of boos by the home support. The player signed from neighbouring Balonpedica Linense over the summer and featured in all 4 of Europa’s Europa League games over the past month.
More information is expected to follow from the Gibraltar FA later today.
