Gibraltar International keeper joins Torquay United
Jamie Robba has signed for English National League club Torquay Utd. The keeper had been on trial at the club and recently played 90 minutes for the team in their recent 1-1 preseason friendly game against Tiverton Town. The keeper, who spent the majority of last season at Lynx FC, did not have the best of spells at French side US Le Pontet last summer but will now be relishing the chance to play for a club who have spent the majority of recent seasons in England’s professional leagues. However, they were recently relegated from League 2 and are now in the National League where they finished 18th last season. Robba was understandably delighted with the opportunity:
“Obviously I feel very excited and happy about the move. Now I’ll have to work hard and train as best as I can to push the number 1 keeper for the spot in the team. But his a very good keeper so it will he very difficult but that’s football. Hopefully signing to a professional club will also help me get the number 1 spot with the national squad as well.”
The club today announced the signing of the Gibraltar International keeper on a one year deal subject to international clearance via their twitter account.

Torquay United as of recent weeks have been under takeover talks, but no deal has yet been confirmed. Torquay player manager Kevin Nicholson confirmed Robba would come in to provide competition to the club’s American keeper Brendan Moore.
“Jamie is coming in to push Brendan [Moore]” said player-manager Kevin Nicholson. He’s a good lad who has done well in training. He played against Tiverton in pre-season which probably wasn’t the best game for him to play, as he hasn’t played for quite a while. I can only see him improving as a player and he seems like the kind of character we want about the place.”
The move came about thanks to Torquay United’s assistant manager Robbie Herrara as Robba explains:
“It came up thanks to Jeremy Judd, Derek Dawkings and Robbie Herrera. Jeremy and Derek introduced me to Robbie after they saw me playing with the national squad and Robbie who is the assistant manager at torquay made it happen.”
Robba should be in contention to be in the squad for Torquay’s opening league game away to Macclesfield Town on the 6th of August 2016. GFT will provide updates on how Robba’s career in England unfolds. GFT wishes Jamie all the best with this magnificent opportunity.
