Jeff Wood has today named a 26 man squad for the two internationals in September against Portugal and Greece. Gibraltar take on the newly crowned European Champions in Porto on the 1st of September whilst 5 days later, Gibraltar will play their first ever FIFA World Cup qualifier against Greece in Faro. With no league action until late September scheduled, Wood isn’t spoiled for choice in terms of choosing form players. Only Lincoln and the overseas players have had minutes on the pitch in the relatively new European 2016/17 season.

There are recalls for Scott Wiseman and Jake Gosling. The UK based duo return to the squad after some time out. Gosling’s last appeareance came almost a year ago in the 4-0 Euro 2016 qualifying defeat to Georgia, whilst after a series of injuries, Wiseman returns after featuring last for Gibraltar in their 6-1 defeat to Scotland in Hampden Park. Wiseman has been on the bench for Scunthorpe so far this season, only making a subsitute appearance in their 3-1 win over Bristol Rovers a week ago, coming on as a sub in injury time. Gosling has so far had no minutes this season but has recently sealed a 6 month loan deal to Cambridge United. There is no place for Reece Styche who is the only Gibraltar international playing abroad who has had regular minutes so far this season with Gateshead.
In the local scene there is again no call up for Ashley Rodriguez who seems to be the outstanding fan favourite for a call up. There is no place either for John Paul Duarte as the newly signed St Joseph’s striker is still working his way back to full fitness after suffering an injury hampered season last year.
The squad in full:
Jordan Perez, Jamie Robba, Kyle Goldwin
Roy Chipolina, Joseph Chipolina, Ryan Casciaro, Jean Carlos Garcia, Erin Barnett, Jamie Bosio, Scott Wiseman, Jayce Olivero-Mascarenhas, Jack Sergeant
Aaron Payas, Anthony Bardon, Jake Gosling, Robert Guiling, Anthony Hernandez, Liam Walker, Jeremy Lopez, Dean Torrilla
Lee Casciaro, Kyle Casciaro, George Cabrera, Robert Montovio, Michael Yome, Jamie Coombes
Gibraltar will face Portugal on 1st September 2016 in Porto in Boavista’s Estadio Do Bessa whilst then travelling down to Faro to face Greece on 6th September 2016. For ticketing information visit the GFA website.
