Gibraltar collapse against Greece

Half time collapse overshadows a positive performance including a Walker equaliser

Goals galore in the first half in a well contested game. The visitors took the lead thanks to a well taken volley through Benfica forward Mitroglou. Gibraltar equalised mid way through the first half thanks to a superb curling effort into the top corner by Liam Walker.

The hosts did extremely well to contain the 2004 European Champions for the majority of the half until a late collapse saw them concede 3 quick goals in the dying stages of the first half. An own goal from Wiseman regained the lead for the Greeks, and another typical collapse was completed with quick fire goals from Fortounis and Torosidis.

No further goals in the 2nd half, as Gibraltar became more resolute. Chances did fall their way via Joseph Chipolina and a guilt edged chance fell to JC Garcia where it seemed easier to score than miss. At the other end, Perez redeemed himself from his first half blunders to produce some top draw saves to keep the score at 1-4 throughout the 2nd half. A positive display from Gibraltar, where looking back, the last 5 minutes of the first half, could have cost them a chance at earning a result tonight.
