7 weeks into the 2016/17 season and a big divide is emerging between the top 5 and the bottom 5. Coincidentally, the fixture computer threw together a match day where the top 5 met the bottom 5 and results went as anticipated. A comprehensive shut out from the top 5 with only Lions scoring a goal for the bottom 5 representatives, albeit being via a defensive mishap from the Lincoln Red Imps defence.
Friday night’s encounter saw top face bottom as Europa took on Lynx. At half time it was a tight affair, with Guillermo Roldan’s close range header was all that separated the sides at the break. But as the cliché says, it was a game of two halves, as Lynx imploded in the 2nd half as Europa put 6 more goals past them to complete a 7-0 rout. Goals from Kike (4), Belfortti, and Romero making it a comfortably evening for the league leaders.
More goals followed on Saturday as Mons Calpe defeated Manchester 62 as the Calpeans emerged 3-0 victors thanks to goals from Michele Di Piedi, Hugo Colace and Juan Pablo Pereira
In the evening fixture, St Joseph’s trounced Europa Point 6-0. Jose Luis Reyes bagged a brace, whilst goals from Estiven Montes, Juan Carlos Villalba, Javier Lopez and Jesus Cano rounded off a comfortable evening at the office for the Saints.
Salvador Carrasco also bagged a brace in Sunday’s clash between Glacis Utd and Gibraltar Utd as the clarets continued their good run of form to keep them in 3rd place in the table. Erin Barnett saw red late on for Gibraltar United after collecting 2 yellow cards.
Monday night’s game saw Lions Gibraltar briefly stun champions Lincoln Red Imps as Jeremy Lopez scored what will probably be one of his easiest goals of his career after a defensive mishap at the back by Lincoln to give the Oranges the lead early in first half. But that’s good as it got for the tangerines Lincoln scored two goals in both halves. Jean Carlos Garcia continued his rich vein for goal scoring form by equalising. Ryan Casciaro scored his first of the season with a tidy finish, whilst brother Lee gave Lincoln a 3-1 lead with the win rounded off by Joseph Chipolina’s goal late on.
This week’s selection shows a attacking looking 4-2-3-1 formation with strikers excelling this past week.
