GFT Team of the Week 5

After a relatively low goal scoring week last time out, the goals returned to the Gibraltar Premier Division with 16 goals scored across all 5 games over the past match day. The weekend began on Friday evening with Lincoln Red Imps putting 4 past Europa Point as Lee Casciaro found his goal scoring boots scoring a hat trick, whilst George Cabrera once again putting in an excellent shift, as he was involved in all 4 of his side’s goals, scoring the goal which got Lincoln underway.

Manchester 62 and Lions Gibraltar met on Saturday afternoon with both sides looking for their first win of the campaign. It was the Red Devils who ultimately triumphed, emphatically wining 5-1 to kick start their season and leave their opponents still searching for that illusive win. Doubles from Andrew Lopez and Cristian Toncheff helped the Reds to win the game with an own goal from Sam Gilroy aiding them further. Enrique Moreno had given Lions some hope after scoring their goal to put them back into the game in the first half at 2-1 but ultimately proved to be merely a consolidatory strike.

Two in form sides square off on Saturday evening as Mons Calpe looked to test their credentials against league leaders Europa. But the greens proved too strong as a goal inside the first minute by Kike, who grabbed two on the night, later provided substitute Yahaya for Europa’s third.

Rearguard action was the order of the day as Gibraltar United squeezed past Lynx by the odd goal. An early strike from talisman Robert Montovio, ultimately proved enough as the red and whites defended well to secure their first win of the season, leaving Lynx searching for theirs.

Monday evening saw another set of form sides meet as St Joseph’s and Glacis shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw. Juan Manuel Llaves gave the Clarets a first half lead, but Glacis were denied a 4th win in 5 games in the 88th minute after Saints substitute Jesus Cano scored a rather fortuitous goal to earn his side a point.
