Lions Gibraltar suffered their 2nd defeat in as many games but this time, were never really in the game to fight for the points. St Joseph’s effectively killed the game off before half time scoring two goals thanks to Javi Lopez and Jose Luis Verdejo. In the 2nd half, the Saints looked comfortable and added a third late on, as Borja Gomez Torres sealed the win.
A quiet start to the game in blustery conditions came to life on the 15th minute as a corner from Javi Lopez found its way straight into the back of the net over Lions keeper Liam Neale. Lions were not happy with the goal as they thought there was a foul in the build up. St Joseph’s were now on top and should have taken the lead after the half hour. A shot from Lopez cannoned off the post, rebounded back off defender Hastings onto the post again and then smothered by the relieved Neale.
Just as Lions looked as if they were gona weather the storm and head into half time a goal behind, St Joseph’s struck again. This time Verdejo managed to evade his opponents and send a low drive across goal and into the back of the net to give St Josephs a healthy lead going into the 2nd period.
An uneventful second half finally saw Borja Gomez Torres to put the icing on the cake making it 3-0 with 10 minutes to go. Lopez delivered the pass to Gomez who made no mistake and seal the points for the Saints. A comfortable save from Jordan Perez from a Gilroy free kick was the only real work the Gibraltar keeper had, whilst add the other end Neale had to be sharp to keep out substitute Ferrer in stoppage time.
