In a fairly uneventful game which produced very little in terms of goal mouth action, it was AIK who managed to score the away goal which ended Europa’s chances of progressing further in the Europa League.
A quiet first half drifted away as the heat seemed to take its toll on both set of players. Roldan’s tame effort straight at Carlgren the only shot on goal of note in a first half whose main incident was a coming together between Europa Striker Carrion and AIK defender Sundgren in a dispute over the return of possession after an injury stoppage.
Despite Europa taking advantage of the possession early in the 2nd half, it was AIK who started threatening the Europa goal. It was Markkanen who opened the scoring 10 minutes into the half to kill Europa’s chances of progressing.
The Swedish side continue in the competition and will now face Greek side Panathinaikos in the 3rd qualifying round.
